The power assist system lowers the amount of pedal force required, therefore significantly lowering the rider's exertion levels. Pedaling force and speed are both detected through the dual-sense module that relays this information to a microprocessor.
The microprocessor then regulates the motor revolution which provides the assisted power and energy transfer to the rear wheel. End result is a system that will reduce a rider's energy expenditure by at least 50%.

Merida Power Cycle 550 was recently awarded a five-star award as the result of an e-bike winter road test conducted by Tekniikan Maalima.

Cold weather and electric motors have always been a weak combination. Tekniikan Maailma tested how electric bikes react in these conditions. They tested four el. bikes at the end of January in Northern Germany.
